E-bike Concepts Link to Smart Grid
December 2nd, 2011 . by adminThe 2011 Tokyo Auto Show was jammed packed with goodies this year. Honda teamed up with Yamaha to make a couple electric bike concepts. Although these are not the the first e-bikes on the market these e-bikes are designed to work with the Toyota Smart Center which is and advanced smart grid energy management system, developed in partner with microsoft, for homes, businesses and power companies. This makes Honda and Yamaha the first to utilize e-bike concepts in the smart grid arena, which means you can manage your bike online.
The concepts were designed to highlight the companies’ joint vehicle communications infrastructure, which they say “will advance vehicle-to-vehicle telematics, encourage vehicle sharing and bridge the gap between cars and bikes”. The bikes are also equipped to have wi-fi capabilities for smartphone based navigation purposes. With growing urban populations and the need for energy alternatives, these e-bikes are not just cool looking they really are the next generation of electric vehicles.
